How we calculate vehicle emissions

Actual emissions vary a lot depending on how you drive. Your personal driving style, acceleration, speed, the age and operating condition of your vehicle, temperature, weather, traffic, road conditions and power-driven features like air conditioning all affect your fuel use.

The data we used for our Car Emissions Calculator are from the Fuel Consumption Guide databased published and reproduced with the permission of the Minisiter of Natural Resources Canada. Fuel consumption data for all cars sold in Canada can be found here. Emission factors are sourced from a report published by Environment Canada which can be found here.
