Renewable Natural Gas for Business
FortisBC is now offering renewable natural gas for businesses that want to support a BC-made, carbon neutral source of energy. Renewable natural gas is created by capturing biogas from sources such as landfills and agricultural waste, and then upgrading it to pipeline-quality gas before being added to FortisBC’s distribution system.
You can now designate 10 per cent of your business' natural gas as renewable natural gas, helping reduce your carbon footprint while supporting renewable energy in BC. By signing up now, you will also reap the benefits of FortisBC's Green Leader program, providing visibility and recognition for your commitment to sustainable energy. Because it is carbon neutral, subscribers also benefit from a 10 per cent credit on the BC carbon tax.
FortisBC first offered renewable natural gas to its residential customers in June 2011. Customers began signing up immediately, paying as little as $5 extra per month to stop waste from going to waste. Now that renewable natural gas is available to commercial customers, there is potential to develop new biogas supplies and produce thousands more gigajoules of renewable natural gas.
